A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY ABOUT SOSUA

20 years ago Sosua was a small and quiet fishing village . Gradually with the construction of the resorts it has grown to become one of the most famous beach resorts town on the island. Although there are a large number of hotels it continues to be a quiet place and each complex is independent of the other. Most tourists that visit Puerto Plata are European, and many have been captivated by the wonder of the place and have decided to stay and run their own businesses.

The coast of Sosua borders a large coral reef as scuba diving, snorkeling and diving are common activities here. The city is divided into two distinct quarters of an extensive white sand bay between Los Charamicos and El Batey. Most Dominicans live in Los Charamicos, and many came here to work in the tourism industry. There is little commercial activity and there are many restaurants serving international and Dominican food, especially with exquisite dishes and fresh fish. On the other side is the neighborhood of El Batey.

This is a full resort setting full of hotels, restaurants, souvenir shops, all focused and oriented toward the tourist. The night is lively and there are plenty of discos and bars in the area. One of the most popular festivals in Sosua is the Jazz, an annual festival which is held every month of October by bringing together major U.S. and Caribbean artists. New Sosua condo developments for high end luxury and affordable clients have reshaped the life of Sosua, making it a better destination for self catering tourism. Sosua beach has kept its charm and beauty after all these years.
